Spicy Fried Fish

We have two extreme ways of eating fish. My family never preffered anything else with fish accept the two recipes. Not because it wasn't good enough, who doesn't like fish biryani or a spicy fish curry. Well at my place nothing wun over Green Barbecued fish and Red Fiercy hot Fried Fish. Yeah you are smart enough to notice the extreme colors and cooking methods. So one is healthiest way of having fish and other is flat unhealthy. Or should I say deep fried!I don't like deep frying ( P.S I didn't say deep fried foods). Its just not justifable to use that much oil for one meal, have greasy utensils and stove. And top it all with the guilt of eating the wrong food. From time to time I try using my oven to substitute for frying.

Somethings just can't be same or anywhere near same if not fried. This is one of those recipes.

Spicy Fried Fish
Ingredients
2 Bolti fish ( 800-900gms each)*
3 tbsp Red Chilly powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp Coriander powder
1 tbsp cumin powder
1/2 tbsp salt
1 lemon (juice)

Note:
* Bolti is fresh water fish. But any white flesh fish should work.It needs to be cut into 3-4 pieces.

Method:

Mix salt, red chilly powder, turmeric, coriander powder and cumin powder with juice of the lemon. If you are bold enough to taste the paste raw, make sure its slightly salter than you would like to eat. Under seasoned fish is a big dissapointment.

Throughly massage the fish with the spices and leave it for marination for 5 hrs ( overnight is the best ).
Deep fry till the fish is crunchy and dark golden with tinch of red . Takes around 10 minutes. Make sure you do not overcrowd while frying.

Serve with a wedge of lemon and you have crunchy, spicy fried fish.

  7. Hi Kulsum, Just came across you site and have been reading your recipes. This recipe brings back memories of my younger days in Kuwait. Going to the fish market in Fahaheel with my father followed by eagerly waiting for my mom frying some shrimp masala and devouring with daal and rice. Miss them days.
