I badly over ate on new year night. Its not how I planned it but things happened. It all ran like a movie in my head how I pushed that extra piece of chocolate cake even when I was full to the brim. Or leftover eating the next day. It's not something I'm proud of but it was chocolate cake with coffee cream and leftover pizza?
In an effort to calm my upset stomach, I headed to make lemonade. And when I peeked into the fridge I realized I was out of lemons. This is the time when all hell breaks loose, I would call M and say funny things, like " What the hell is your problem, why didn't you pick up the call in first ring" , or " You haven't bought a gift for me in dog years!". Poor guy, now he pretty much understands my swings are mostly food related, also why he lets me stuff my pantry with things of all kind!
Lucky M though, we had some tangerine on hand and I went about my business without bothering him making a Indian style tangerine lemonade. I wonder what took me so long, why I didn't do this before! It is our new favorite drink, one I have been making almost every other day since tangerine is so flooding the market right now. I'm sure you can make it like a cocktail as well or just add soda for a fuzzy drink.
Tangerine Lemonade
1 glass fresh tangerine juice
1 tbsp lemon juice (1/2 a lemon)
1/4 tsp black salt
1/4 tsp crushed roasted cumin seeds
1/4 tsp black pepper
(you can replace all the three above with 1/2 tsp of chat masala)
1/8 tsp ginger juice
Saffron infused sugar syrup as required
Method
Mix all the ingredients and serve chilled .
And now back to eating pizza and chocolate cake. Kidding! (not)
Oooh, wonderfully refreshing with the tang of the tangerine and the spices. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteLove the tangy lemonade!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great alternative to traditional lemonade - just the kind of thing i want to be drinking at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea, recipe and photo
ReplyDeleteI love these photos! I've never been a fan of cumin in my fruit (well, except on guava) but I will def keep this drink in mind when I'm entertaining family. It looks lovely.
ReplyDeletegreat photos! i wanna go back to india now :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures Kulsum!! So vivid! Funny thing I just got blood oranges.
ReplyDeleteYummy....we've been flooded with tangerines too and I much prefer them to oranges. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteLooks so fresh with bright colour of the orange.
ReplyDeleteReally like the bright pictures babe! You are cute..first you overeat n then run to make shikanji..I miss the shikanji from those dirty(unhygenic) thelavallahs in India :)I m not very comfortable with the idea of saffron syrup but loved the addition of ginger juice. I can have a whole jug of this drink..yum!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds so delicious and refreshing! awesome color!
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for someone to say that :) Saffron I would never use with lemonade but with tangerine it went very well! Enhanced the color & added a subtle exotic flavor
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I on the other hand love cumin with citrus! You can ofcourse omit it all together:)
ReplyDeletelove your variation on sikanjabeen. tangerines are not as bitter. even eating tangerines plain with kaala namak tastes soooo good!
ReplyDeleteUrdu sikanjabeen sounds so much more classy than wht we call Shikanji :) and yes it requires quite less sugar syrup compared to lemonade as it has its own sweetness. Thank you for stopping by :)
ReplyDeletewe have overdone our eating during the holidays.. and now we are on very low carb - mostly soup/salad kind of diet, I do not feel like looking at food anymore :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is looking so very refreshing and i LOVE the black board. Did you paint one?

ReplyDeleteThank you Soma! that's a table I had in stores, u bet my new hobby is digging into all the trash I have
ReplyDeleteThank you Soma...u always very kind :) And the black board is actually a table I dig into from my trash room, u bet its my new hobby!
ReplyDeleteI could have used this after New Year's Eve too, ugh! Why does it always seem like such a good idea at the time you're eating it and not so much after wards? Now I know what to drink to soothe my stomach the next, because of course there's always a next time isn't there? :-D
ReplyDeleteThis sounds lovely!
